SCOOTY Receives Support from OVIN to Enhance Transit in Brampton

Sep 27, 2023

Funding will help introduce e-scooters and other transit-integrated micromobility

TORONTO, SEPTEMBER 26 – SCOOTY, a Canadian company that offers a micromobility platform for Transit-Oriented Communities, is receiving $1 million in support from the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network (OVIN). With this funding, the company will integrate micromobility solutions, which includes lightweight electric-powered modes of travel such as e-scooters and e-bicycles, to help people easily connect to public transit in Brampton.

“SCOOTY is pleased to have received support from the Government of Ontario through the OVIN for the introduction of transit-integrated micromobility to Brampton,” said Shoaib Ahmed, Founder and CEO of SCOOTY. “The goals of this project are to create seamless trip planning and payment integration with transit and micromobilty.” “We continue to build a stronger Ontario by supporting innovative companies like SCOOTY through OVIN,” said Vic Fedeli, Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. “Ontario has a robust and talented startup community, and our government is ensuring that innovators have the tools they need to develop and deploy made-in-Ontario solutions. Congratulations, SCOOTY, we look forward to seeing this project unfold!”

SCOOTY will deploy micromobility at residential, commercial, retail and mixed-use developments and academic institutions that are within 15 minutes of Brampton’s transit hubs. This supports the City of Brampton’s 2040 Vision to improve mobility, increase local and regional transit use, reduce congestion and attract investment. This project will also enhance Provincial and Municipal investment in transit and the development of Transit-Oriented Communities to fulfill the Ontario government’s commitment to see 1.5 million housing units built over the next decade.

“This project will offer residents and visitors quick, convenient and affordable access for short-distance trips,” said Shoaib Ahmed. “They will also be able to easily connect to, and extend, their local and regional transit trips.” “OVIN is proud to support SCOOTY in its mission to introduce transit-integrated micromobility to Brampton,” sad Raed Kadri, Head of OVIN at the Ontario Centre of Innovation. “This initiative not only aligns with our commitment to advancing smart mobility solutions but also reinforces our goal to enhance Provincial and Municipal investment in transit, fostering a more connected and sustainable future for Ontario.”
